Watch in High Quality! Watch the morning routine of the brake tests and uncoupling of the train at the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum. The Museum is located in Campo, California; about a hour's drive from San Diego. The locomotive is a former Cotton Belt GP9. The locomotive was repainted into Southern Pacific Black Widow Colors. The locomotive, SP 3873, is used to pull the museum's weekend trips from the historic Campo depot to the Mexican Border Tunnel at division. It is coupled to two pullman cars and another trainset. It also shows the train uncoupling from another consist it is attatched to. The brake test includes applying and releasing the brakes several times in rapid succession to see if they are applying, releasing, and recharging with the correct strength, time, and redundancy. An emergency brake application is also made to test the brakes' strength. Next, the handbrake is released. The train is now ready to be uncoupled from the other locomotive and freight cars. Jack, the engineer, releases the independant brake and throttles up, only to find that he forgot to throw the isolation switch to run.
